MASTERING BODY MIND AND ENERGY

about-iwka

About IWKA

We are known as one of the premier associations for building the Body, Mind and Energy though the Arts of Wing Tjun and Taiji, With schools in over 18 countries worldwide.

IWKA founder, Sifu Sergio Pascal Iadarola has studied Chinese Martial Arts intensively. He has combined his 30 years experience and extensive research into the history, philosophy, concepts and principles of Chinese martial arts, with the most up-to-date Western teaching methods.

Furthermore, by putting the pieces of the various lineages of Wing Chun found in China and Southeast Asia together, IWKA is the most complete available Wing Chun system to date, yielding results never before thought possible in students worldwide.

The aim of the IWKA is to spread the authentic IWKA Wing Tjun system throughout the world, as handed down in the direct lineage from it’s founders until the present day.
At the IWKA we value high teaching standards. We have no “secrets” and our curriculum offers a very structured way to learn Wing Tjun Kung Fu.
The Wing Tjun we teach differs from the majority of other schools and lineages, in the way that we don’t rely on localised muscular strength.
Instead, we utilise sensitivity, footwork, structure, concepts and principles to deal with attacks that are delivered by stronger, and/or faster people.
We advocate the “soft” approach to Wing Tjun due to its virtually limitless possibilities. The IWKA also offer a unique, systemized structure to train your tendons. Strong tendons not only support a longer and healthier life, but are also very important in self-defense when dealing with brute/strong, muscular force from your opponent.
Force against force (i.e. direct blocks instead of neutralisation and redirection of power) go only so far and fail when the opponent is stronger. The soft approach however can be improved upon and utilised for a whole lifetime by anyone. Regardless of size, strength, gender or age.
Our Wing Tjun, due to its soft approach, is very direct, ‘aggressive’ and devastating in its real-life application. Accordingly, our motto is “Less is More”.

OUR INSTRUCTORS

Owner of IWKA CYPRUS, Serif Mehmet

Serif started his Wing Chun journey in 1992 under the WSL Lineage and then later went on to train under the Leung Ting Wing Tsun system. When he moved from the UK to Cyprus he opened up his own school, until he was asked to join a large WingTsun organization in May 2016, becoming a private student and being appointed to run his school in Cyprus Kyrenia as a representative of the organisation as the chief instructor. In May 2017 Serif decided to leave the organisation and join the IWKA under the private instruction of Sifu Mauro Gibin (7 master grade) and is now the official IWKA licensed school for Cyprus.

Co-Owner of IWKA CYPRUS – Assistant / Kids instructor, Sarah Mehmet

Initially a UK qualified nursery teacher Sarah has an extensive background of teaching and working with children. She decided to change careers when her husband, Serif Mehmet opened his own Wing Chun school, and she started to learn under his instruction, so that she was able to assist in teaching the kids classes. In May 2016 she joined the same organisation as her husband Serif, under private instruction and was appointed to be the official assistant/kids instructor for the Cyprus Kyrenia School. In May 2017 Sarah also left the organisation to join IWKA and is now officially the assistant/kids instructor for IWKA CYPRUS.

What is Wing Tjun?

Wing Tjun is a very practical martial art that uses principles of physics and body mechanics to teach people how to defend themselves in real life self defence situations. It uses a combination of structure and timing over muscular strength and brute force by deflecting and redirecting 100 per cent of the force of the attack into an opponent, so it is possible for physically weaker people to defend themselves effectively against a stronger attacker.

The Wing Tjun system is self defense in its most efficient and consistent form. Your own physical strength or prior abilities need not be the decisive factor in a threatening situation.
The young or physically weak are always the first targets of aggressors. However, ANY person without major physical disabilities can gain self confidence and a level of fitness which will increase their self defense abilities by 500%.

Wing Tjun training will teach you to direct the force of an attack against the attacker, i.e. to ‘borrow’ the energy of the attacker, ‘charging up’ one’s own body and then effortlessly redirecting the energy back against its source. The Wing Tjun system is one of the very few self defence systems that prepare you for every phase of a fight, using feet, fists, elbows and knees. Instead of retreating, a Wing Tjun student will advance and glue themselves to their assailant, rendering them unable to continue their attack. This proximity, combined with well-defined movements, will force the attacker into a helpless position. Advanced Wing Tjun students turn into an instant nightmare for any aggressor.

What is the Ritual Fighting Program?
The Ritual Fighting Program (RFP) deals with a much neglected type of combat which occurs everywhere many thousands of times each year, with many serious injuries and even fatalities. In this form of ritual combat the typical martial artist almost always comes off second-best against the unscrupulous street thug.
The RFP explains why, describes atavistic rituals and phases of these one-sided, five-second fights and teaches how the situation can be defused by visual and verbal means or body language.
However there are certain people, e.g. acting under the influence of alcohol or drugs, who can only be stopped by even greater violence. The RFP programs are the ultimate response to such threat. The program which has been tried and tested by elite police unites and consist of just a few highly effective Wing Tjun techniques which will rapidly put an attacker out of action.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for last night – it was a great class again and thanks for letting me bring Frank…..
A bit of feedback from him for you. He has been doing various martial arts for over 40 years and thinks the set up you have here is marvelous. He really liked the school and the way its setup and thought you as a teacher was excellent. He said its the first time he has trained with a teacher that has actually explained the moves and the reason behind them. He thought it was a really friendly class with a good atmosphere and if he lived over here he would be there training with us.
When he first started out, it was when the first Japanese came over teaching and said they were really strict and you could not ask them questions. You spent hour after hour doing the same thing……Sounds like you spoil us, see you on Wednesday.

  • As a woman i feel its important to learn self defence, that is why i chose to take up Wing Tjun as it is designed so that even if you are not strong or tall you can still defend yourself by using the other persons force against them. Since starting Wing Tjun lessons i have gained so much confidence and i look forward to my lessons each week.
The instructor at the school is very patient and encouraging and pays particular attention to detail and proper form. For anyone out there looking to gain confidence, it is an excellent martial art to learn.

  • As a long standing member of the IWKA CYPRUS i have seen the school go from strength to strength. The membership continues to grow month on month and there is quite a buzz about the place. The classes are well structured and the teacher is a friendly and easy going guy who takes time to fully explain each move and the reason behind it. There is a nice balance between the cardio exercise in the initial circuit training and the actual lessons in Wing Tjun, which is a martial art suited to both sexes and all ages – come along you wont be disappointed.

  • I initially joined the school to accompany my husband, i thought i would hate it but i was pleasantly surprised, the first week was hard but for some reason i was addicted. I started to feel strong. If someone comes up behind me i can defend myself, you feel good about yourself, you learn patience and you also relieve stress from work.

  • Since starting Wing Tjun about 2 months ago I’ve noticed that my reflexes, health, well being and confidence have drastically improved! Once you start you just can’t get enough! I have been wanting to learn a real practical self defence for some time now, but never truly finding the right one for me, but IWKA CYPRUS Wing Tjun has been perfect! I would recommend this martial art for any individual ready to make a positive change in life and improve their confidence, health and actual safety at any age, whether male or female!

  • healthy body = healthy mind a sincere thanks to our teacher for allowing me to become an `art`ist in more than one way… if you havnt already please check out this invaluable service … might turn things around for you like it did for me.

  • I trained Boxing and Aikido before. But I like Wing Tjun because it is simple and effective. You can reach quite good level and be able to use it in real situations in short time of learning it. Our instructor Serif devotes much time to look after each student to get better and faster results.

    Y., Girne
  • My Wife and i chose Wing Tjun for our kids over the sports because we wanted to give them a real life skill. Especially having 2 little girls we want them to be able to defend themselves. Football or Tennis aren’t going to help them if someone tries to snatch them – Wing Tjun will!!!
